Provide First Aid (VOC Refresher: HLTAID003/HLTAID011)

Welcome to the Apply First Aid Verification of Competency (VOC) Training. This course will give you an understanding, skills and knowledge of all persons who may be required to provide CPR, or apply first aid, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Features of this refresher training include:

- Download a VOC Certificate of Completion on successful completion

- A Digital Wallet ID VOC Card is also issued on successful completion (see John Citizen Sample)

- Verification of competency by our RTO partner, AlertForce RTO Code 91826.

Entry requirements:

1. You must upload 100 points of ID

2. You must upload a previously issued with a Statement of Attainment (or wallet card) by an RTO less than 3 years ago or be able to present a CV that demonstrates industry currency.

NOTE: this training is suitable as refresher if you have previously obtained a Unit of Competency in any of these qualifications:

  1. HLTFA301C  Apply First Aid OR
  2. HLTFA311A  Apply First Aid OR
  3. HLTAID003 Apply First Aid OR
  4. HLTAID011 Apply First Aid

    This training addresses the theoretical component of Apply First Aid. It does not test you with the practical skills required to Applying First Aid and as such is only applicable for refresher training not initial first aid training.

    All operations to which this course applies are subject to stringent Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) requirements, which may be imposed through State or Federal legislation, and these must not be compromised at any time.

    Where there is an apparent conflict between performance criteria and OHS / WHS / HSE requirements, the HSE requirements take precedence.

    This course will provide you with information about:

    1 Respond to an emergency situation

    2 Apply appropriate first aid procedures.

    3 Communicate details of the incident.

    4 Review the incident

    This course has been reviewed by a recognised subject matter expert.

    It has been designed to comply with best practice national health and safety standards. Terminology has been chosen for clarity and ease of comprehension across jurisdictions. For example, ‘employer’ has been used to signify the broader term ‘PCBU’, while ‘WHS’ represents both work and occupational health and safety.

    ALTHOUGH BASED ON THE ELEMENTS, THIS IS NOT A NATIONALLY RECOGNISED COURSE. THIS VOC COURSE CAN ONLY TO BE USED FOR REFRESHER PURPOSES IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY ACHIEVED A STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT.

    Note: Whilst a Statement of Attainments do not expire, different worksites have different policies and requirements of what refresher training should be and what is acceptable. Queensland sites, for example, typically want face to face only. You should check if you are unsure as there are no refunds available once you have downloaded certificates. This refresher course is a Verification of Competency undertaken by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code 91826).

    If you have not previously done this course, to be deemed competent, you must complete an in-person training session an accredited trainer with a registered training organisation.

    What is provide first aid training? Theoretical component of the competencies

    This refresher course describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

    The training covers the theory of

    1.1. Recognise and assess an emergency situation.

    1.2. Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty.

    1.3. Assess the casualty and recognise the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

    1.4. Seek assistance from emergency services.

    2.1. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance ARC guidelines.

    2.2. Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid princip les.

    2.3. Display respectful behaviour towards casualty.

    2.4. Obtain consent from casualty where possible.

    2.5. Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty ascomfortable as possible.

    2.6. Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturers’ instruct io ns.

    2.7. Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles.

    3.1. Accurately convey incident details to emergency services.

    3.2. Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.

    3.3. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies.

    3.4. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies.

    4.1. Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers and seek help when required.

    4.2. Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required.

        You are required to download the course materials and review. You will then be asked a series of questions to verify your competency as part of your assessment. They must be successfully completed to complete the course.

        A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
