Who is this for?

  • Doesn’t Work in an RTO As a Trainer and Assessor

  • does not have any experience as a trainer and assessor within the VET industry (Vocational Education and Training).

This program is for you if you are looking to transition in your career and become a trainer of the first-time and want to share the skills and knowledge you already have with others who enter your industry.

This entry-level program contains 12 "units" of competency. During the course, you will learn the foundational skills needed to work in the VET sector as a trainer and assessor. By the time you graduate you will be able design, deliver, and assess an accredited course, conduct assessments face-to-face or online, and take part in validation activities.

You may not understand what it all means, but you will by the end.
Note: If you have worked as a Trainer and/or Assessor and/or hold a Certificate in Assessment and Training that is no longer valid then our course with RPL or credit transfers may be more suitable for you. Our RPL and Credit Transfer Program will be launched in May 2023.

This program is designed for anyone who wants to be a trainer or assessor but does not have the necessary qualifications.

How long does it take?

We offer a 12-month enrolment period. If you need more time, you can extend the period at an additional cost. You are the one who will ultimately determine the speed. How much time you spend studying will determine how long you take.

Our quick response times help reduce the total time, making 12 months a realistic timeframe. After all, your assessment marking is completed in less than 8 days. It's a lot faster than the 20-25 business days that many other RTOs take.

Most of our students work full-time, juggling family, pets, holidays, and all of the other things that life holds. They usually take a few evenings each week to work on the course, and then an additional few hours on weekends. The lucky ones get to do it while at work too!

What will I learn?

You will learn a lot about what it is like to work for an RTO and what it's like to train AQF qualifications and how to deliver "competency-based" training.

  • How to operate in the VET Sector
  • How RTOs operate and the importance of ASQA for RTOs
  • How to create a Trainer profile
  • How to plan and maintain professional development
  • How to create session plans, use accredited courses and training packages to consult with clients and identify the best formal competency standards that they need
  • Adult learning is based on many different theories and principles
  • The Unit of Competency and Foundational Skills
  • How to deliver face-to-face training
  • How to assess learners and RPL assessment pathways
  • How to identify core skills requirements in the context of training and assessment
  • How to integrate strategies, resources and advice on foundation skills into vocational training and assessment
  • How to conduct validation and moderation activities and how to participate
  • How to assess the competency of learners
  • What RPL actually means
  • What is synchronous and asynchronous assessment and learning?
  • How to deliver and evaluate in an online learning environment

What are the actual units included in this program?

You will learn about clustering. This means that you won't have to repeat the same learning and assessment if you learn them one at a time (as used to be done). Here's how we put them together. Download the course brochure for full details.
