Can you do HSR Training online?
In short yes if you would like the knowledge around what a Health & Safety Representative is without the ability to issue provisional improvement notices (PINS). It is also ideal for HSR's who have completed the initial 5-day course and would like to refresh their knowledge.
Background HSR Refresher Training
This course is for HSRs or deputy HSRs who are looking to refresh their knowledge after attending an initial 5-day course. This course covers the knowledge and skills required to maintain a safe work environment and fulfil the duties and responsibilities as an HSR.
To represent the interests of their workgroup members in safety and health matters, a health and safety representative is elected. They may discuss safety issues with supervisors and coordinate with a safety and health committee. To be eligible for the HSR role fully, you will need to complete HSR training.
Who should attend HSR Refresher Training?
HSR refresher training is optional for elected health and safety representatives (HSRs), and deputy HSRs. To receive full power in the HSR position, it is necessary to attend the training course which is initially face to face.
A HSR cannot issue a provisional improvement notice, or order a work stoppage before they have completed approved training.
What is covered in the training?
There are 3 online refrersher modules:
1. Health and safety consultation in the workplace
This course will provide an understanding of:
- Identify the principles that apply to health and safety duties under WHS legislation
- Describe how some of the key health and safety duties may be discharged, including the concept of what is ‘reasonably practicable’
- Provide an overview of the health and safety duties owed under the Act as they apply to persons conducting a business of undertaking, officers, and workers and other persons
2. Health and safety duties
This course will provide an understanding of:
- Health and safety consultation in the workplace
- Explain the duty of PCBU to consult workers
3. Health and safety representation in the workplace
