Background - What is continuous improvement?

Continuous improvement is an ongoing effort to improve products and services, or processes. These efforts can lead to ‘incremental’ or ‘breakthrough’ improvements over time.

A four-step quality model, the plan–do–check–act (PDCA), is one of the most popular tools for continuous improvement. Also known as Shewhart Cycle or Deming Cycle, it's also called the Shewhart Cycle.

1 - Plan Identify a potential opportunity and create a plan to make it happen.

2 - Do the following: Make small changes.

3 - Check: Use the data to analyse the changes and decide if they made any difference.
