Welcome to CPCCLHS3001 Licence to operate a personnel and materials hoist training course. This is a High Risk Work Licence (Class HP).

Once competent you can apply for a HP Licence.

This training course specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a personnel and materials hoist, that is, a cantilever or tower hoist or several winches configured to operate as a hoist intended to carry goods, materials or people.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work.

Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Competence in this unit does not in itself result in a licence. A licence is obtained after competence is assessed under applicable Commonwealth, state or territory work health and safety (WHS) regulations.

It is a licenced, insured and accredited RTO (32365). All the instructors have completed their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and are highly experienced, vocational trainers.

This fully equipped facility is designed to provide the highest quality training. The training facility is located in Salisbury, offering a large array of equipment, structures and plant for construction, high-risk training, and access.

What will you learn

1. Obtain and interpret information required to ensure that equipment inspection, use, maintenance and storage complies with manufacturer requirements.

2. Calculate load weight, check that it is within the working load limit (WLL) of the hoist and distribute it in accordance with manufacturer requirements. 

3. Establish required communication methods with relevant persons.

4. Carry out pre-start checks, including checking the hoist logbook and controls.

5. Carry out operational checks, including testing hoist safety devices and checking for fire extinguisher and other emergency equipment.

6. Shut down hoist in accordance with manufacturer requirements. 

7. Carry out shut-down checks.

8. Isolate and secure power against unauthorised access. 

9. Report, tag out, isolate and record damages and defects.

Entry requirements 

• Reached 18 years of age to sit the SafeWork Queensland assessment.
• A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card).
• Proof of Queensland residential address
• 100 points for identification for the SafeWork assessment.

• Students will need to have a basic understanding and knowledge of English.

The application form for a new Queensland HRW Licence must be completed online on the Worksafe QLD site. 

The application must be submitted within 60 days after the successful completion of the practical assessment. 

A Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) is a document that shows the results of an assessment or part of an assessment. Students should keep their CAS as well as the proof of payment for the application for the licence to legally prove they can lawfully perform the work until they receive their HRW licence.
