Welcome to CPCCLRG3001 Licence to Perform Rigging Basic Level Training Course. This Queensland-based training course specifies the outcomes needed to perform basic rigging tasks associated with moving plant and equipment, steel construction, hoists including mast climbing hoists, placement of pre-cast cement, safety nets, static lines, perimeter safety shutters and screens, and safety nets.

After completing the learning activities successfully, participants will be assessed by a WorkCover Assessor to determine if they are ready for their licensing exam. 

After completing the riggers training, participants will have acquired the skills to move, secure and place loads using mechanical load shifting equipment.

Participants will be trained in the following areas of knowledge and skills:

This unit specifies skills and knowledge needed to perform basic rigging safely. 

Riggers are responsible for using mechanical load shifting gear and related gear to secure, move or place loads. 

This includes plant, equipment, or structural members. Riggers set up hoists and ensure stability of members. 

This unit covers rigging of structural steel hoists, pre-cast concrete members in a structure, safety nets and static line mast climbing platforms, perimeter safety screens and shutters as well as cantilevered crane load platforms. 

In construction and other industries, rigging is done when load shifting equipment is being used to secure or move loads. 

Anyone performing construction work must complete the general construction induction program specified in the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice Construction Work. 

This requirement is met by completing CPCCWHS1001 Prepare for work in the construction industry. This unit requires a prerequisite. This requirement can be met either by successfully completing the unit CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging or having a valid dogging licence. 

The completion of this unit is not sufficient to obtain a licence. After assessing competence in accordance with applicable Commonwealth, State or Territory work health and Safety (WHS) Regulations, a licence can be obtained.

It is necessary to familiarise oneself with the different types of rigging hardware used in lifting and moving heavy loads safely. 

Understanding how to select the right hardware for the job based on load requirements and environmental factors is paramount. Perceiving the distinctions between hardware types is vital for ensuring the success and safety of rigging operations.

5 - Identify required rigging equipment and associated gear.

6 - Select risk controls and equipment, including fall prevention and fall arrest equipment, and check that it is working and fit for purpose.

7 - Select and check PPE.

8 - Select communication equipment and check that it is working and fit for use.

9 - Establish and maintain communication with relevant persons to ensure task plan and risk controls are communicated clearly, including any impact on other workplace activities.

10 - Ensure risk controls and safety measures and equipment have been put in place, including the fitting, adjusting and anchoring of fall protection equipment.

11 - Erect and dismantle all structures and plant while maintaining stability, in accordance with workplace and manufacturer requirements.

12 - Remove excess materials from work area.

13 - Inspect structures, plant, equipment, and gear for defects, and isolate, tag out and report defective items.

14 - Remove risk controls and safety measures and equipment.

Upon successful completion of this course, student will be awarded a Statement of Attainment and the High-Risk Work Licence* to Perform Rigging Basic Level by WorkSafe Queensland.
