Dementia and Incontinence (Awareness Training) - 25 min
Welcome to the Dementia and Incontinence course. This course has been designed to provide an understanding of good practice continence care for those with dementia.
Organising continence care to accommodate the special needs of individuals with dementia has become a vital issue for many facilities as they try to:
- improve the quality of life of those who suffer from dementia, and
- reduce the high workload of their care givers and the mental and physical strain they are under, particularly given the growing number of people with dementia and the rising care costs associated with that.
The aim of this course is to improve the lives of incontinent people with dementia and their caregivers.
After completing this course, you will understand:
- the different diseases that can cause dementia
- the impact dementia can have on a person's behaviour and how this has consequences for their everyday continence care
- how to make it easier for dementia sufferers to toilet themselves
- how to choose appropriate products to facilitate self-changing and toileting, and
- how to appropriately approach individuals with dementia.
A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
