Welcome to the Hand Operated Power Tools Induction Training Course. This course has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the controls that should be applied to using hand operated power tools in the workplace.

This course will provide you with information about:

  • ways you may be exposed to risks associated with hand operated power tools, and
  • controls that should be applied to reduce the risk associated with hand operated power tools.

What is a hand operated power tool? 

Hand operated power tools are any tools which are operated by hand. This includes any tools which are powered by means of explosives, compressed air, electricity, batteries, petrol or diesel. 

Exposure to hand operated power tools

You may be exposed to hand operated power tools when performing:

  • dilapidation surveys
  • work involving hazardous materials, and
  • geotechnical surveys.

Examples of hazards associated with hand operated power tools include:

  • electricity
  • rotating equipment
  • projectiles, and
  • manual handling.

          A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
